Deadline by Shoreline Genetics - Shoreline x Death Star

Deadline is a Shoreline Genetics release created by crossing (Texas) Shoreline with (Ohio) Death Star.

In an exclusive Shoreline Genetics interview, the breeder described the purpose of Deadline as an effort to “lock down the skunk terps.”

Death Star already has that old-school skunk and diesel strength, and Shoreline also has that greasy, skunky, fuel-heavy profile. They weren’t two completely opposite plants. They had a lot of overlapping traits, so the cross made sense.

The decision to cross both hitters connected a Texas legacy with one of the defining underground cultivars to emerge from Ohio during the early 2000s.

This is history in the making.

Shoreline - a Texas Foundation Behind Deadline

Shoreline has circulated through Texas cannabis history as an old-school skunky varietal, although its earliest origin story remains partly archival. Having its own feature article, Texas Shoreline is thought to be:

(Dutch Passion: "Oasis" [NL#2] male) X ('89 Shoreline Amp. Ca. Bag-Seed female) = 75 seeds (2 female, 1 male keepers) = 1997 Shoreline (1997 Shoreline male) X (Resingrower's N.L.#5 selection) = SHORELINE (best of 35 females)

In relation to Deadline, this bright green greasy strain filled with heavy notes of fuel was the perfect choice to compliment Death Star's most sought after traits.

Death Star - the Ohio Legend Behind Deadline

Death Star, associated with Team Death Star and the Ohio cannabis community of the early 2000s, has a documented lineage of East Coast Sour Diesel and Sensi Star, a combination that helped develop a lasting reputation throughout the Midwest. The broader story of Death Star’s Midwest history puts the actual selection process happening in Columbus, Ohio.

According to Shoreline Genetics' most recent interview, the Death Star cut used in this project was acquired around 2021. He described it as old-school and skunky, with greasy resin and a more indica-dominant character.

Why Shoreline Genetics Created Deadline

Shoreline Genetics viewed Shoreline and Death Star as cultivars from the same general family of old-school profiles. Both carried skunk, grease and fuel associations, giving the breeder a shared foundation to work from.

With Deadline, people can expect old-school flavor, good frost, good bag appeal, and a solid potency level. The numbers I’ve seen are around the mid-20s. It’s not just about chasing potency, though. The point was to bring together that skunk, grease, fuel, and old-school effect in a plant that still has good structure and appeal.
